Our Approach We work extensively in the business sector to improve organisations’ utilisation of IT, both in terms of systems and specific applications such as web development. We work extensively with organisations to assess their actual IT needs, investigate the working relationships and deliverables from existing IT arrangements, and make specific recommendations to increase functionality and return on investment. Our focus in the HE sector is on pragmatic answers that ensure the institution is buying and using the correct technology, and is positioned to take best advantage from these investments. IT Systems & Practices Our assessments of Universities’ IT activities entail specialist advice on the most effective usage of existing technology to meet the institution’s needs, where we often find that existing technologies are entirely adequate, but for a variety of reasons are simply not being used by the institution in the most effective manner. We also assess the current suitability of IT platforms, tools and teams, the way IT decisions are made, and the way IT delivers accountable value to the institution. Finally, we advise on future IT choices, including system purchase and IT outsourcing. Websites We work across the boundary of IT and brand communications to ensure that institutions’ use of this vital communications tool is optimised. This entails an audit of the structure, usability and commercial value of the existing website(s). We also assess its effectiveness in communicating with its diverse audiences, and work to improve its content and focus. We work more broadly to consider how effectively the website matches the institution’s strategy, structure and propositions, in recognition of the importance of communications within Universities’ organisational change, and as a means of creating a distinctive positioning. Finally, we advice on new media strategy and assess the suitability of the website as a virtual learning environment.
