Background

We are often asked to “mobilise” companies’ usage of databases. There are many variations in the work encountered, so rather than outlining one specific case study, this section is written to encompass the range of problems we are asked to handle.

This provides a brief outline of the key processes required when working with databases. We follow these guidelines to ensure that companies have an efficient working database that delivers the required functionality and, crucially, is geared towards delivering commercial value from the effective usage of management information through the firm’s sales staff, customer service staff and marketing activities.

We generally work with Microsoft Access (in our view, the most cost-effective software for handling small and medium-sized databases), but our general principles apply across all different types of databases.
