Background A
5-Partner firm trading for 25 years, but where the oldest Partner was arriving
at retirement, with two other Partners well into their fifties and beginning to
plan their exit Several
questions raised by this: Should they seek a merger?
Should they seek a sale?
Should they seek to improve the ‘saleability’ of the firm, prior to
seeking a buyer – and how should these improvements be identified and
implemented? Should
they split the firm, and allow separate Partners to take separate specialisms
elsewhere? Should
they seek a new Partner, whether from inside the firm or outside via trade sale?
How should they best assess their options? We
were asked to evaluate the current activities and modus operandi, to assess the
strategic options available, and to recommend changes to the working practices,
commercial strategy and future direction of the Partnership
